After the Design 192 was offered to Argentina, by their dissatisfaction, Vickers offered a uniform main caliber armed battleship based on the Lord Nelson's hull (like in the previous cases and based on dimensions) carrying 8x 12" and 20" 4" which was a step up both in main caliber number and secondary guns caliber (previous designs carried 3" guns). Due to the larger single 12 turrets (The extra length of the design compared to Lord Nelson suggest single beam turrets rather a twin) on the sides I had to rearrange the funnels to a parallel layout as there were little space for two linear funnels (I could squeeze them but this is more economical in my opinion) Introducing caseamtes to the hull resulted in much less cramped topsides and boat arrangements.
The design had the following characteristics:
Dimensions: 129,84 (pp) 139,7 (wl) x 23,24 x 7,47m
Displacement: 14.200tons (standard)
Armour: 25mm Deck, 229mm Belt
Engines: 16.000shp, Vertical Triple Expansion Engines, 2 shafts
Speed: 36km/h (19,5knots)
Armaments:
2x2,4x1 12"/45 (305mm/45) Vickers Mk B Cannons,
20x1 4"/50 (102mm/50) Vickers Mk A Guns,
2x1 457mm Underwater Torpedo Tubes
After Design 211 Vickers offered a modified version which was slightly shorter but mounted her 12 of her 120mm Guns in twin turrets but otherwise the same as Design 211. Information on the B version is not clear, either it would be used Steam Turbines as propulsion instead of the traditional Vertical Triple Expansion engines in which case the look of the design would not change, or the guns would be mounted "In shielded mounts as in Russian service" so basically a Lord Nelson upper deck with 120mm rather 76mm guns.
As you can see this is a clear example for when casemated guns are actually a better choice then turret mounted guns. While indeed turrets were better protected not to mention all weather protection and better fire arcs, they take up important space on the deck and on such a small ship as this that is not a commodity it has plenty of. You have to think about the firing angles of the main turrets, their blast effects while you want to place as much guns as possible within the protection of the armoured citadel.
The design had the following characteristics:
Dimensions: 129,54 (pp) 139,7 (wl) x 23,24 x 7,47m
Displacement: 14.500tons (standard)
Armour: 25mm Deck, 229mm Belt
Engines: 15.750shp, Vertical Triple Expansion Engines, 2 shafts (probably Steam Turbines in design B)
Speed: 35km/h (19knots)
Armaments:
2x2,4x1 12"/45 (305mm/45) Vickers Mk B Cannons,
6x2, 8x1 4,7"/50 (120mm/50) Vickers Mk A Guns,
2x1 457mm Underwater Torpedo Tubes
