Originally in 1950 the Royal Navy envisioned 3 types of missile armed warships, Type A for a fast 30knots main fleet unit, Type B of slow 17knot Convoy Escorts and Type C of slow 12knots Coastal escorts each with triple Sea Slug launchers (the main fleet one with two the rest with one). Later the Type C was deleted with the coastal defences forces so remained the slow convoy escort and the fast main fleet unit. In late 1952, early 1953 a series of Guided Weapon Ship designs were started, the GW series which at first only represented these two types, but somewhat later the convoy escort was abandoned and the main fleet unit separated into the large Missile Cruiser and the smaller Missile Destroyer of which the County class DDG's were born while the Cruisers got deleted by the decision of Admiral of the Fleet Louis Francis Albert Victor Nicholas Mountbatten and First Sea Lord at the time.
GW1 here represents the slow Convoy Escort design which is evident by it's short but beamy hull, slow speed but long range with an armament and radar suite for AA defence.
Missile storage was described for these early versions of Guided missile warship to be of "Deep Stowage" meaning the missiles were stored in the main hull and only a limited upper superstructure works was present with most likely a tilted loading mechanism similar to this one:
