Since Sweden finished her last coastal defence warship of the Sverige class HSwMS Gustav V it long wanted a 4th such vessel, even the Sverige class was envisioned as a 4 ship class but WW1 and the consequent economic situation not allowed the 4th vessel to be laid down, even Gustav V which was ordered in 1915 finished much later only in 1922. There were a large number of coastal defence ship designs offered just before WW1 in 1913-14 for the Swedish navy featuring 210, 283 and even 305mm cannons described as modified Sverige or Modified Oscar II designs. After the war in mid 1920's when most of the European countries economies regained their strength and trading seemed to get back on track, Sweden too planned to expand it's Navy which plan was halted and abandoned during the war. At this time around 1925 / 26 a simple design was offered, an improved Sverige with somewhat longer hull different bow, and improved weaponry consisting of a new /50 calibre 283mm cannons in twin turrets rather the /44 ones of the original Sveriges.
And here I present you this design.
