KuK 2000ton Destroyer Projects

The culmination of the Austro-Hungarian destroyer development, the 2.000ton "super" destroyers would had been not just the largest in the world if they would built but could challenge even cruisers with their 15cm gun armaments!
Only the Germans designed and intended to build such large and similar armed destroyers though none were to be as large as these in both displacement and dimension wise!

While the admirality of the Austro-Hungarian navy requested designs for 1.600ton destroyer leaders as well as 1.000ton "torpedo boats" in 1917 later that year in September it ordered 12 1.900ton destroyers and soon issued an tender for a new 2000ton design with an armament of 4x 15cm guns 6x 53cm torpedo tubes, 63km/h (34knots) speed. Ganz-Danubius Fiume was the first to produce a design in 1918 April with MTK's proposal arriving only much later in August. Details on the projects shown an exceptional startup time to reach full speed within 20minutes after igniting the boilers also the excepted construction speed was 30months meaning if construction started in 1918, the first ships could only arrive in 1921, the worsening situation on the war and lack of important materials meant the end of these otherwise excellent projects.

The offer from the Hungarian firm Ganz-Danubius (Ganz és Társa-Danubius Villamossági-, Gép-, Waggon- és Hajógyár Rt. - Ganz and Partner-Danubius Electrical- Machine-, Wagon- and Shipbuilding Co.), Fiume/Budapest as follows:
Dimensions: 120,6 x 10,2 x 3,8m
Displacement: 2.272tons standard, 2.498tons full load
Engine Power: 43.000shp Danubius Steam Turbines 2 shafts, 63km/h (34knots)
Range: 5.500km (3000nm)
Armament: 4x1 15cm/50 Skoda K18, 4x1 10cm/50 Skoda K11 AA guns, 2x2 53cm torpedo tubes

This offer was from the MTK (Marinetechnische Komitee - Naval Technical Committee), Pola / Vienna as follows:
Dimensions: 120,6 x 10,2 x 3,8m
Displacement: around 2.300tons standard, 2.650tons full load
Engine Power: 43.000shp AEG Steam Turbines 2 shafts, 63km/h (34knots)
Range: 5.500km (3000nm)
Armament: 4x1 15cm/50 Skoda K18, 4x1 6,6cm/45 Skoda K15 AA guns, 3x2 53cm torpedo tubes

Apparently the Ganz-Danubius proposal was chosen because it was able to produce the design sooner than the MTK, despite the smaller number of torpedo tubes and slower though larger calibre AA guns.
